Lingtra Support

A translation editor with translation memory and a termbase that keeps your document's formatting. For translation students and freelance translators.

Open a Word document or a PDF, translate it sentence by sentence, and export it to Word with the same layout. Every sentence you confirm goes into your translation memory, your terms are found even with Turkish suffixes, and missing tags or mismatched numbers are flagged as you type. The app interface is in Turkish; English names are given in brackets below.

  • Mac and iPad, App Store
  • English → Turkish
  • French → Turkish
  • No account, no server
  • No ads, no tracking

Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Which devices can I use?

Mac and iPad, both from the App Store. When you are signed in with the same Apple Account, one Lingtra Pro subscription works on both.

There is no iPhone version yet.

Which language pairs are supported?

English → Turkish and French → Turkish. You choose the source language on the start screen, and each project remembers its own. Terms and translation memory are kept separately per language pair, so your English terms never show up in a French project.

More pairs will follow in updates; tell us which one you need.

Which files can I open?

Word (.docx) and PDF. Glossaries as CSV/TSV (“Save as CSV” from Excel), translation memories as TMX.

In Word documents, bold, italics, footnotes, tables and images stay where they were. Your translation is saved as a separate _TR.docx file; the original is never modified. Exported text is marked as Turkish, so Word's spell check works right away.

What happens when I open a PDF?

The PDF is first converted to a Word document, then translated as usual and exported to Word.

  • Paragraphs, headings, bold/italic and footnotes are kept.
  • Tables come through as plain text; images are not carried over.
  • Scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be opened.

If you have the document's Word file, open that for the best result.

While you work

How does the translation memory work?

Every sentence you confirm is stored in memory. When a similar sentence comes up, a suggestion with a match percentage appears in the side panel, with the words that differ highlighted. Apply it with ⌘1–⌘3. Use Bellekte ara (Search memory) to see how a word or phrase was translated before.

Does the termbase really understand Turkish suffixes?

Yes. If your term is “sözleşme” and the translation says “sözleşmesinde”, the term counts as used; on the source side, French and English inflected forms are found too. On the Terim tabanı (Termbase) page you can search, edit and delete terms, and import or export them as CSV.

What does the quality check catch?
  • Formatting tags that are in the source but missing from the translation,
  • mismatched numbers (1,250.50 and 1.250,50 count as the same number),
  • terms that appear in the source but are not used in the translation,
  • empty translations.

Warnings update as you type and are listed in the Kalite (Quality) tab.

My document was split in the wrong place. Can I merge and split sentences?

Yes. From the menu next to a sentence you can merge two sentences, or use Cümleyi böl (Split sentence) and tap the word where the second sentence should begin.

Where do I get a word count for a quote?

From the analysis button in the editor's top bar. The document is compared with your memory and words are grouped into: confirmed, internal repetitions, 100%, 95–99%, 85–94%, 75–84% and new. Use Tabloyu kopyala (Copy table) to paste the table into Excel and work out your price.

Can I take my translation memory to another tool?

Yes. Export the memory as TMX; any translation tool that reads TMX can open it. You can also import TMX files from other tools.

Your data

Where is my work stored?

Only on your device. No account, no cloud, no Lingtra server. Your original file is never modified; the translation is saved as a separate _TR.docx file.

How do I back up my work or move it between Mac and iPad?

On the home screen, open the Yedek (Backup) menu and choose Yedek al (Create backup). Lingtra writes your projects, translation memory and terms into a single .lingtra file. Keep that file wherever you like: iCloud Drive, another cloud folder or a USB drive.

On the other device (Mac or iPad), choose Yedekten yükle (Restore from backup) in the same menu. Restoring replaces the local data on that device; it does not merge. For security, your API keys are not included in backups; enter them again on the new device.

How do AI suggestions work?

They are optional. If you enter your own API key for Google Gemini, OpenAI or DeepL in Settings, you can get a suggestion for the sentence you are translating. The key is stored on your device, in the system keychain.

When you ask for a suggestion, only that sentence and your matching glossary terms are sent directly from your device to the provider you chose; Lingtra has no server and never sees the text. AI usage is not included in the subscription; the provider's own pricing applies, if any. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Subscription

What is included for free?

Every feature, for 1 project and up to 500 terms. An auto-renewing yearly Lingtra Pro subscription removes both limits. The price is shown on the App Store in your local currency.

How do I cancel my subscription?
  • Mac: App Store › your account › Account Settings › Subscriptions › Lingtra Pro
  • iPad: Settings › Apple Account (your name) › Subscriptions › Lingtra Pro

You keep Pro until the end of the current period. Your projects are never deleted, and you can still open and export them.

I subscribed but don't see Pro.

Tap Satın alımları geri yükle (Restore Purchases) on the purchase screen and make sure the device is signed in with the Apple Account you subscribed with.

Troubleshooting

Something from my document is missing in the translation.

Known limits for Word documents: text boxes, SmartArt and Word comments are not translated yet; fields such as a table of contents are preserved, but the text inside them is not translated. If you opened a PDF, remember that tables become plain text and images are not carried over; open the Word file if you can.

If anything else is lost, write to us, ideally with a sample document.

My PDF won't open.

Most likely it is a scanned PDF: the pages are stored as images rather than text. You can tell if you cannot select and copy text in it. Lingtra cannot open these files; use the Word version of the document or a PDF that contains text.
